We are recruiting on behalf of a local food production company.

The Shift Maintenance Engineer will report directly to the Site Engineering Manager and play a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of a fast-paced food production environment.

This position operates on a 4-on, 4-off rotating shift pattern, consisting of 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts (12‑hour shifts).

Flexibility is required, as additional hours may occasionally be necessary to support operational requirements, planned maintenance activities, and holiday or absence cover.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on production machinery and site services equipment.
  • Respond promptly to equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed with minimal disruption to production schedules.
  • Accurately record maintenance work completed using the company's maintenance management systems and documentation.
  • Complete all required maintenance records, PPM schedules, quality documentation, and compliance paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of site processes, production equipment, utilities, and associated systems.
  • Conduct mechanical and electrical fault finding and repairs in line with training, competency, and safety requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime, improving reliability, and increasing operational efficiency.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and completion of engineering projects.
  • Monitor spare parts usage and stock levels, highlighting requirements to ensure critical parts remain available.
  • Maintain effective communication and provide clear handovers between shifts to ensure continuity of work.
  • Work collaboratively with production, hygiene, quality, and other site teams to achieve operational objectives.
  • Liaise professionally with external contractors and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with site procedures and safety standards.
  • Maintain engineering workshops, stores, and work areas in a clean, organised, and safe condition.
  • Ensure all tools, materials, and equipment are returned to their designated locations after use.
  • Attend training courses and development activities as required to support personal and business growth.

  • Take responsibility for personal safety and the safety of colleagues, contractors, and visitors.
