David is a lovely, quiet and cultured 88-year-old gentleman who lives with his wife, one son and one daughter.
He worked as a mechanical and electrical engineer and travelled the world throughout his career.
David is an avid reader and has a particular interest in history, especially World War II, which is one of his specialist interests.
He also loved playing the piano and going for walks, particularly near the sea.
David has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, which has had a significant impact on his life and has made many everyday tasks more difficult.
The family are looking for a mature, English-speaking male Personal Assistant who has similar interests to David and would enjoy spending time with him.
The ideal person would be patient, friendly and understanding, with the ability to build a good rapport with David and engage him in interesting and stimulating conversations.
The role would involve providing companionship, chatting with David about his interests, accompanying him on short walks and encouraging him to remain active and engaged.
Someone with an interest in history, engineering, travel, music or current affairs would be particularly well suited to the role.
Hours will be arranged in 2 or 3-hour sessions and can be arranged to suit.
A driver would be preferred but is not essential.
The post is subject to a satisfactory DBS check and satisfactory references.
There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
