Love working outdoors? Fancy a hands-on role where no two days are the same? Help keep Plymouth looking its best and make a difference every day. If you're someone who enjoys working outdoors, getting stuck in, and taking pride in seeing the results of your work, this could be the perfect next step for you.

As a Neighbourhood Ranger at Plymouth Community Homes, you'll play a key role in helping keep neighbourhoods clean, safe, attractive, and welcoming for the thousands of people who call them home. Whether you're maintaining green spaces, carrying out cleaning and caretaking duties, helping prepare empty homes for new tenants, or supporting residents with local issues, your work will have a visible impact every single day. This is not your typical desk-based role. You'll be out and about across Plymouth, working as part of a supportive team where variety comes as standard and every day brings something different.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Grounds maintenance, grass cutting, hedge trimming and keeping outdoor spaces looking their best.
  • Caretaking and cleaning of communal areas and neighbourhood facilities.
  • Supporting property clearances and preparing homes for new residents.
  • Carrying out safety checks and helping ensure neighbourhoods remain safe and well maintained.
  • Responding to issues raised by residents and working with colleagues to find solutions.
  • Using a range of tools, machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Supporting a variety of operational activities across our Environmental Services team.

This is a true multi-skilled role. While you may be strongest in one area, we're looking for people who are willing to turn their hand to a wide range of tasks. From grounds maintenance and cleaning to minor repairs, clearances and neighbourhood improvements, you'll need to be adaptable, practical and ready to help wherever needed.

What we’re looking for

You don't need to know everything from day one, but you'll thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Like practical, hands-on work and staying active throughout the day.
  • Take pride in delivering high standards.
  • Are flexible and willing to learn new skills.
  • Can work independently whilst also being a great team player.
  • Have a positive, can-do attitude and enjoy helping people.
  • Are comfortable using a smartphone or tablet to manage your work.
  • Understand the importance of health and safety.

Experience in grounds maintenance, caretaking, cleaning, facilities services, property maintenance, landscaping, construction, environmental services, waste management or similar practical roles would be beneficial, but attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.

  • Option to buy and sell annual leave.
  • Three paid volunteering days each year.
  • Free on-site gym and changing facilities.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and free counselling support.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Free annual flu vaccination.
  • Modern equipment and digital tools to support your role.
