We are looking for a friendly, reliable Male Personal Assistant/Support Worker to support a man in his 50s who lives in the Motherwell area. Family is really important to him, and he enjoys spending time with his wife, two kids and dog. He has a good sense of humour and enjoys spending time with people who are warm, respectful and easy to get along with.
Day to day, he is looking for someone to provide positive support around him & help with a mixture of home-based and community activities. At home, this could include preparing & supervising meals. Additionally supporting him to get about the home to do whatever he wants to do. He has mobility issues and uses a frame and wheelchair, so help with general housework, gardening or DIY could be an ask. Or alternatively just providing company & sitting with him to relax & watch TV, chat or play cards.
Out and about, he would need the PA/Support Worker to drive and also push his wheelchair & accompany him to access things in the community like go to the shops, the cinema, go watch football, swimming or just go for a walk and a coffee. He likes spending time with his family, going for days out and discovering new places too, including holidays when possible.
He has Huntington’s disease, and the PA/Support Worker will need to provide patient, respectful support that helps him live as independently as possible. This may include support to:
- plan and structure his day
- stay active, connected and involved in community life
- make the most of his routines, interests and family time
- communicate in a way that feels calm, supportive and respectful
Relevant guidance or training will be provided where needed. A good match would be someone friendly, warm and patient, with a good sense of humour. He would suit a PA / Support Worker who can build trust, encourage independence and enjoy shared interests such as football, comedy, coffee trips or just getting out and about. Being kind, dependable and comfortable in a family-oriented home with 2 children and a small family dog is important.
Location: Motherwell area
Hours: Approx 20 hours per week across 3/4 days initially
Flexibility: Some weekend work and flexibility required; this can be discussed with the employer at interview
Driving: Full driving licence and access to your own car are essential
Training: First Aid knowledge is helpful; relevant training will be provided where appropriate
If you are a warm, positive and practical person who enjoys helping someone live life their way, this could be a rewarding role for you.
