Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurses to join Ward 18. Ward 18 is a 29 bedded, busy acute medical male only ward with a speciality of Frailty & Dementia care. The multi-disciplinary team includes nutrition & dietetics, physiotherapy & occupational therapy, tissue viability, dementia specialist nurses, palliative care & safeguarding, and we work closely with the discharge co-ordinators to facilitate complex discharges. Prevention of deconditioning and re-enablement are amongst our priorities, and the expectation is that team members take an active role in encouraging our patients to remain as independent as possible with our support.
You will develop your skills in managing deterioration and care around the end of life, as well as active advocacy and in-depth knowledge around the Mental Capacity Act 2005. You will be committed to providing dignified and respectful care for our patients, many of whom have cognitive impairment and require a higher level of understanding and care interventions.
The post holder will work independently, in conjunction with the wider nursing team to deliver and maintain a high standard of nursing care, within the framework of National and Trust policies, referring to senior colleagues as needed. Responsibilities include:
- Assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of personalised care, ensuring patients feel safe, supported, and informed to make decisions regarding their care.
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to maintain safe and effective care at all times.

As a medium sized general hospital, we provide a full range of general medical and surgical services, including a busy Emergency Department, Maternity, and Paediatrics. Clinical Responsibilities include:
- Unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.
- Formulating evidence-based programmes of care based on an assessment and evaluation of patient needs.
Professional Responsibilities include:
- Complying with Trust policies and practice within the NMC Standards and guidelines.
- Maintaining professional registration and fulfilling revalidation requirements.
Education and Training responsibilities include:
- Assisting with induction and orientation programmes for staff ensuring that the needs of the ward are met.
- Participating in the sharing of knowledge with colleagues.
Other Duties include:
- Acting as Nurse in Charge in the absence of a Band 6/Sister, with appropriate guidance and support from senior nursing staff.
- Temporary redeployment to other areas of the Trust during times of peak acuity, in accordance with skills, competence, and service needs.
