We are seeking an enthusiastic Occupational Health Technician to support the Staff Health & Wellbeing team in delivering high-quality occupational health and wellbeing services. Working under the supervision of Occupational Health Nurses, you will carry out a range of clinical duties, including venepuncture, health surveillance, and providing support to the wider clinical team in line with established policies and procedures.

The role also involves promoting staff health and wellbeing through departmental and Trust-wide initiatives, helping to safeguard employees from workplace health risks. Previous occupational health experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided. You will have a strong interest in holistic wellbeing, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to personal and professional development.

The role of the Occupational Health Technician is to support the delivery of high-quality occupational health services to employees and external clients, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Occupational Health Technician has a breadth of knowledge and is able to provide holistic support to staff and clients utilising a biopsychosocial model.

The Occupational Health Technician works independently and manages their own case load including conducting health assessments, screenings, and supporting the development and implementation of health policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of employees. Integral to this role is the ability to communicate effectively in a sensitive and compassionate manner, maintaining client confidentiality and elevating or referring to the registered professional effectively.

The Occupational Health Technician must focus on maintaining the health and wellbeing of all staff groups within the organisation and within external customer organisations.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-placement screening in a timely manner, including providing a response to their line manager regarding their employee’s work health and any adjustments they may require.
  • Conduct health screening including food handling questionnaires, night worker health assessment, and drugs and alcohol testing.

Administration:

  • Maintain and update employee health records in compliance with confidentiality and data protection guidelines.
  • Provide administrative support in the day-to-day operations of the occupational health department.

Data Collection/Auditing:

  • Assist in audit of clinical practice, also data collection for Occupational Health reporting purposes.
  • Produce monthly KPIs to demonstrate health surveillance status and to monitor compliance.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to new team members.
  • Undertake delivery of training sessions to staff regarding health and wellbeing agenda in line with legislative and best practice guidelines.
