Estates Building Officer | Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Flexible working requests will be considered. We are seeking a motivated Estates Building Officer to join our Estates Team. This exciting opportunity plays a key role in maintaining, improving and developing a large and growing acute hospital estate.

This varied and rewarding role includes delivering estates minor works projects, managing our Grounds Maintenance and Decorating teams, supporting major capital developments, leading compliance programmes, and ensuring contractors work safely and effectively on site. You will be at the heart of maintaining a safe, efficient and compliant healthcare environment while contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

As our hospital grows through ambitious programmes of investment and expansion, you will contribute to projects that enhance patient experience, staff wellbeing and clinical service delivery. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of Authorised Person responsibilities, in disciplines such as Working at Height, Confined Spaces, Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) and other high-risk engineering systems.

You will plan, monitor and manage assigned projects, ensuring successful delivery to agreed timescales, budgets, quality standards and performance requirements. You will act as the Trust’s Appointed/Responsible Person for asbestos, leading asbestos management, providing specialist advice, organising training for staff and contractors, managing survey and removal contractors, and maintaining the Trust’s asbestos register on Micad. The role may also include responsibility for other specialist disciplines as required.

Working closely with Estates colleagues, you will support Building Management System (BMS) operations, lead investigations into mechanical and controls faults, and coordinate remedial and replacement works, acting as the key link between service users and contractors. The role is responsible for maintaining high professional and technical standards while ensuring project delivery meets governance and accountability requirements.

A key focus is supporting the Estates team with the delivery of Capital and Minor Works projects across the Trust, ensuring contract compliance, key performance indicators (KPI), and effective management of delegated capital, backlog maintenance and environmental improvement programmes.

Management of one or more Estates / Minor New works / Capital projects including refurbishments, redevelopments, and new builds in accordance with the Trust’s project management processes and policies. Preparation of detailed project plans to ensure successful completion of each stage of the project. To manage the delegated budget for Minor New Works and the project budgets for assigned Capital Funded schemes.

To indirectly line-manage the Estates Administrator assigned to operate the Minor New Works database, limited to the Minor New Works process. To maintain effective channels of communication within the department between Management, staff and other hospital departments.
