We are seeking an experienced and proactive part time Deputy Health and Safety Manager to join our small and friendly team. Working closely with the Area Health and Safety Manager, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering robust health and safety compliance across the organisation; ensuring all operations are carried out in line with legislative requirements and best practice; and driving continual improvement across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deputising for the Area Health and Safety Manager during periods of absence
- Providing expert health and safety advice and training to staff, managers and stakeholders
- Working with key staff in creating and managing risk assessments
- Monitoring, analysing and reporting on health and safety data, including accidents, incidents and Legionella results
- Acting as a Health and Safety competent person
- Leading staff health and safety training, including first aid needs assessments and fire warden training
- Playing a leading role during external inspections and audits
- Working closely with the Estates team on compliance matters
- Ensuring that drivers of college vehicles meet licensing, training and compliance requirements
- Travelling across our multiple sites as required
What we are looking for:
- Demonstrable experience in a health and safety role and experience managing workplace hazards
- Knowledge of risk assessments in the workplace
- Experience of delivering training
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong ICT skills and high attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise a complex and varied workload
- Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of a multi-site organisation

- Essential: Certified Member of Professional Body IOSH
- Legionella Management for Responsible Persons
- English, Maths, ICT
- Full driving licence

- Nebosh National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
Working Hours:
Part time – 26.25 hrs (0.7) – working hours/days flexible and full time hours may be possible – can be discussed at interview. Core hours: Monday - Friday: 8:30am – 4:30pm.
