Or perhaps you're already in a client‑side or local authority role and are looking for greater variety, autonomy and the opportunity to work on projects that leave a lasting environmental legacy. If that sounds familiar, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Salary up to £33,854 + 27% pension + excellent benefits

Our client, the UK's Largest Land Manager, is seeking a Civil Engineer to help deliver infrastructure and woodland creation projects across the Central / North District, supporting some of the country's most important forests and landscapes.

Why this role? This isn't a traditional consultancy or contractor position. You'll take ownership of projects from concept through to completion, helping deliver the infrastructure that makes woodland creation possible. From forest roads and bridges to reservoirs, visitor facilities and access improvements, your work will directly support the growth and long‑term sustainability of our forests. One day you could be working with contractors on site, the next reviewing designs, planning future works or helping shape new woodland creation schemes. It's a genuinely varied role that combines technical engineering, project management and stakeholder engagement. You'll be trusted to manage your own workload while working alongside experienced colleagues who share a passion for delivering projects that make a positive environmental impact.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing the delivery of civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the Central England / North Districts
  • Supporting woodland creation programmes through the design and delivery of enabling infrastructure
  • Overseeing contractors and ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to specification
  • Carrying out inspections and assessments of civil engineering assets
  • Producing and reviewing specifications, designs and technical documentation
  • Managing contracts and supporting procurement activities
  • Working closely with colleagues, consultants and contractors to deliver successful outcomes
  • Helping drive sustainable, low-carbon engineering solutions across the estate

What we’re looking for:

We're interested in hearing from engineers who have a few years of industry experience and are looking to take the next step in their career. You might come from a consultancy, contractor, local authority or client‑side background. Ideally you'll have:

  • HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering
  • Experience delivering civil engineering or infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of contract administration and contractor management
  • Understanding of CDM regulations and construction safety requirements
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A practical, proactive approach to problem‑solving

What’s in it for you?

Alongside the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that improve and protect the natural environment, Forestry England offers benefits that are rarely matched elsewhere in the construction sector.

  • Salary up to £33,854
  • Potential additional allowance of up to £5,000
  • Hybrid working and a genuine commitment to work‑life balance
  • 37‑hour working week
  • 27% employer pension contribution
  • 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days with service, plus public holidays
  • Excellent employee benefits, wellbeing support and retail discounts
  • The opportunity to help create and maintain forests for future generations

Interested? If you're a civil engineer looking for more responsibility, greater variety and the chance to see your projects make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
