The Assistant Management Accountant will provide support to the Financial Management team and wider Finance team, working closely with the Head of reporting, Associate Finance Business Partners and Senior Finance Business Partners across a range of Service Lines.

You will need to respond effectively to finance issues, resolving complex financial queries and providing complex advice and guidance within the assigned portfolio.

This will include liaising with internal staff at all levels of seniority (including staff with non-finance backgrounds) and external colleagues for example from other NHS organisations, Local Authorities and non-NHS service providers.

  • Provide central management accounts support to the Finance Business Partners and Associate Finance Business Partners on the production of month end reports, establishment updates and report distribution.
  • Support the management accounting finance team to ensure the portfolio of tasks/projects are planned, managed, and delivered effectively.
  • Create and input standard monthly journals relating to accruals, prepayments, maintenance contracts and income.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload with minimal supervision working to tight and often changing timescales.
  • Ensure robust financial management systems are in place to enable financial variances and trends to be monitored.
  • Responsible for the collection, processing and output of inter-service recharges.

Ensure all data required is received in accordance with the monthly timetable, is accurate, and is manipulated into a suitable format prior to data entry onto the finance system.

  • Maintain underlying records in accordance with departmental and Trust policies to ensure that high quality information is produced to agreed timescales.

This will include expenditure schedules; budget holder lists and staff lists.

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records through the investigation of coding errors, working independently and in conjunction with other departments.
  • Take corrective action and ensure systems are appropriately updated

Further Duties

  • Develop and maintain a full understanding of the finance system and its applications, working with other key staff both within Financial Management and Financial Accounting to improve and automate processes where possible
  • Investigate and interpret a range of financial enquiries, providing feedback through explanation and advice to budget managers within specific Service Lines.

Ensure clear communication in order that finance terminology is understood by non-finance staff.

  • Contribute to the budget setting process for specific Service Lines through maintenance of detailed supporting spreadsheets.
  • Assist with project work and other ad-hoc duties to ensure that all the routine work of the department is covered.
  • Act at all times as a representative for the Finance Department ensuring that the professional reputation of the Department is upheld.
