We are recruiting a skilled and motivated Band 6 ADHD/Autism Waiting Well Practitioner to join our Neurodevelopmental Service on a 12 month fixed term basis working 22.5 hours per week. This role focuses on providing high‑quality telephone‑based support, triage, and clinical oversight for children and young people awaiting ADHD/Autism assessment. You will play a central role in ensuring safe waiting list management, early identification of risk, and timely support for families. You will also supervise and guide Band 4 Associate Practitioners who deliver routine Waiting Well check‑ins and engagement calls. This post is ideal for a practitioner with strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to improving the experience of families waiting for neurodevelopmental assessment.

Core Professional Requirement

Applicants must hold a recognised core professional qualification and current registration with one of the following:

  • NMC (Registered Nurse – Mental Health, Learning Disability, or Child Branch)
  • HCPC (e.g., Occupational Therapist, Practitioner Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist)
  • Social Work England – Social Worker

What You Will Be Doing

  • Leading clinical triage of neurodevelopmental referrals, applying risk tools and determining RAG ratings.
  • Providing telephone‑based support, psychoeducation, and advice to parents and carers.
  • Delivering supported parent/carer clinics.
  • Offering guidance on reasonable adjustments, strategies, and available support while families await assessment.
  • Providing clinical supervision and oversight to Band 4 Associate Practitioners.
  • Supporting multi‑agency communication with education, Early Help, social care, and third‑sector partners.
  • Contributing to service development, pathway governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensuring high‑quality documentation and adherence to the Waiting Well and Waiting Safely Policy.

All new starters will commence in post on one fixed start date each month, in line with our Prepare to Care (P2C) induction programme date. P2C offers up to 3 weeks training to support you to meet the induction / initial training requirements of the role.
