Looking for a different kind of Civil Engineering career? Perhaps you're currently working in consultancy and want to spend less time behind a desk and more time seeing projects come to life. Maybe you're working for a contractor and are ready to trade long hours, site pressures and relentless deadlines for a healthier work-life balance. Or perhaps you're already client-side and looking for more variety, ownership and the opportunity to work on projects that make a genuine difference. If that sounds familiar, this could be exactly what you're looking for.
Our client, the UK's largest land manager, is looking for a Civil Engineer to help manage and deliver infrastructure projects across some of the country's most important forests and landscapes.
Why this role? This isn't a traditional consultancy or contractor role. You'll take ownership of projects from concept through to completion, helping maintain and improve a diverse portfolio of civil engineering assets. One project might involve refurbishing a reservoir, another upgrading forest roads, delivering visitor facilities, improving car parks, maintaining bridges or supporting the development of nationally recognised cycling and recreation trails. No two days are the same. You'll split your time between site visits, contractor engagement, design reviews, project planning and stakeholder management. Rather than focusing on a single asset type or project sector, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of engineering challenges while helping ensure the infrastructure is safe, sustainable and fit for future generations. It's a role that offers genuine autonomy, variety and the chance to see the direct impact of your work on the environment and the communities that use it.
What you'll be doing:
- Managing the delivery of civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the forest estate
- Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of assets including roads, bridges, reservoirs, car parks, visitor facilities and recreational infrastructure
- Managing contractors and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification
- Undertaking inspections and condition assessments of civil engineering assets
- Preparing and reviewing specifications, designs and technical documentation
- Supporting procurement, contract management and project delivery activities
- Working closely with colleagues, consultants and external stakeholders
- Promoting sustainable and low-carbon engineering solutions
What we’re looking for: We're interested in hearing from engineers with a few years' industry experience who are looking to broaden their project exposure and take ownership of their work. You could come from a consultancy, contractor, local authority or client-side background. Ideally you'll have:
- HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering
- Experience delivering civil engineering or infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of contractor management and contract administration
- Understanding of CDM regulations and construction health and safety requirements
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A practical, proactive approach to problem-solving
What’s in it for you? Alongside the opportunity to work on projects that support and protect the UK's forests and green spaces, the organisation offers benefits rarely matched elsewhere in the construction sector:
- Salary up to £33,854
- Potential additional allowance of up to £5,000
- Hybrid working and genuine work-life balance
- 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days with service, plus public holidays
- Excellent wellbeing support and employee benefits package
- The opportunity to work on a hugely varied asset portfolio in unique locations across the UK
Build infrastructure that lasts. Protect landscapes that matter. Enjoy a better balance while doing it.
