Senior Community Midwife - Vulnerable Team (Liberty) in Luton

Main duties of the job include providing clinical leadership to members of the Liberty Team, including clinical supervision, practice audit, development and training. Responsibilities also involve line management, guidance and support to a team of midwives and student midwives, as well as providing clinical expertise, advice and guidance across the team as required.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the effective and efficient running of all community services.
• Liaise fully with all Community Team Leaders and Senior Managers.
• Provide safe and effective midwifery care to vulnerable women/service users while working in partnership within a multidisciplinary and multiagency team.
• Ensure comprehensive, compassionate and enhanced midwifery care to vulnerable clients while providing the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care.
• Lead and coordinate the provision of care to vulnerable women/birthing people throughout the puerperium.
• Ensure excellent and timely communication with the wider Senior Management Team and escalate any concerns appropriately.
• Provide effective line management, support and guidance to team members, taking responsibility for appraisals, absence management, personal development, and staff communication in line with the Trust's policies.
• Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and other agencies involved in the care to ensure the delivery of seamless services.
• Ensure all resources are used in the most economic, efficient and equitable way.
• Ensure that Health and Safety requirements are met and that risks to service users and staff are assessed and action taken to minimise these.
• Participate in the development, monitoring and audit of policies and SOPs relating to clinical practice and care.
• Act as a representative of the organisation in professional relationships, collaborative working and external promotional activities.
• Lead regular team/project meetings that are facilitated in an open and honest manner.
• Identify and manage poor performance issues.
• Report all incidents, complaints, and accidents appropriately and undertake investigation and resolution as appropriate.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Provide advice and guidance based on best evidence to all members of the team.
• Act as a resource to staff regarding aspects of clinical practice and care.
• Ensure a high standard of individualised holistic care and support is delivered to clients, promoting empowerment, advocacy and partnership.
• Ensure that clinical documentation is up to date and adheres to record keeping standards.
• Monitor standards of care, participating in audit and required actions.
• Maintain agreed governance processes through incident reporting, investigating and risk assessment.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care for mothers/birthing persons and babies, obtaining informed consent throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Communications:

• Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times according to Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with a wide range of people to explore complex issues and make complex decisions.
• Effectively communicate complex and sensitive condition-related information to women/birthing people and their families that require empathy and reassurance.
• Agree the arrangements for communication with the woman/birthing people and their family and document these in accordance with Trust policy.

• Adhere to trust policies and procedures relating to own workplace to contribute to service development.
• Evaluate current policies and procedures in relation to the care of women/birthing people who are vulnerable.
• Promote the profession of midwifery and ensure midwifery care is evidence-based and in line with best practice.

Analysis and Data Management:

• Ensure the processes are in place to identify, collect and evaluate information in order to support clinical decision-making.
• Utilise appropriate judgemental skills when assessing and advising mothers/birthing persons and their relatives in crisis situations.

Research, Development and Audit:

• Act as a role model by ensuring own actions promote quality and identify and manage any risks.
• Participate in the development of the quality agenda and contribute to improving standards of care.

Freedom to Act:

• Accountable for own professional actions undertaking all duties having regard to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct.
• Be aware of Trust Fire Regulations, cardiac arrest and major accident procedures.
