We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Cardiology Specialty Doctor.

The post holder will be based at Luton and Dunstable Hospital site and provide specialist cardiology services to the dynamic and diverse population.

You must be dedicated to providing high quality care, maintaining excellent clinical standards and continually looking to drive positive change by developing the service as well as your own sub-specialty interests.

This a full time fixed term contract for 12 months to join our middle grade rota within our dynamic cardiology department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

The appointee will play a key role in delivering high-quality cardiology services within our trust.

This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with cardiovascular conditions, supporting outpatient clinics, contributing to inpatient care, and participating in cardiology procedures as appropriate.

The appointee will work closely with consultants, specialist nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient care.

Job Plan:10 PA week consists of 9 PAs direct clinical care and 1 PA for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The post holder will join the existing cardiology team to provide a comprehensive cardiology service across the Trust.
  • The post holder will work 9 am to 5 pm on a daily basis with occasional early starts and out-of-hours commitment but no on-call duties.

Duties will include involvement with out-patient clinics.

  • Other duties of the post will include regular attendance at wards rounds and review of patientswith clinical problems outside of the cardiology bed base.
  • There will be administrative duties arising from out-patient work.
  • In case of difficulties of any kind, the post holder will seek the advice of the appropriate Consultant.

The post holder is not expected to participate in any work beyond his/her level of expertise.

  • The proposed timetable is detailed below. This may be subject to change in response to service demands and developments.
  • The appointee will share office accommodation with other members of the Cardiology Team.

Secretarial support will be provided together with IT equipment, including access to the internet.

  • The Specialty Doctor will participate in the regular Department Teaching, Audit and Governance meetings.
  • So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the appointee undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
  • The appointee undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergency and unforeseen circumstances.
  • The appointee undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments, outside normally rostered duties as are essential for patient care.
  • The timetable will be reviewed by the Supervising Consultant and/or Clinical Director for Cardiology as part of the annual appraisal process.
  • Be required to provide a senior level of support to the department.
  • Attend ward & board rounds both with the Consultants and with the Specialty Training Doctors / Foundation doctors.

The Specialty Doctor may be responsible for unaccompanied ward rounds.

  • Regular contribution to departmental meetings (including weekly MDT – Joint Cardiology Cardiothoracic meeting), Journal club and Medical Grand rounds of the hospital.
  • Communicate with patients, their relatives and carers, members of the multidisciplinary team, other specialties, GPs and the wider community services.
