ROLE AND PURPOSE
To assist the Lord Mayor and Consort/Lady Mayoress and other Civic Heads to perform their official duties, acting as butler, chauffeur, toastmaster and sword bearer/mace bearer on ceremonial occasions.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Attend to the Consort/Lady Mayoress, Deputy and other civic heads to facilitate performance of their duties at meetings, full council and functions ensuring civic protocol is adhered to at all times.
- Act as chauffeur to the Deputy and other authorised passengers, ensuring the Civic car is regularly cleaned, valeted and maintained to provide a safe and comfortable environment for passengers to travel.
- Act as butler in the Civic Suite serving drinks and light refreshments as required.
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of civic, religious and military protocol and ceremonial occasions advising as necessary.
- Act as toastmaster and prepare preambles to toasts when necessary.
- Responsible for Civic chains, badges of office and regalia, ensuring their security when in use and return to authorised place of storage.
- Responsible for state and civic robes and advising on appropriate dress for other occasions.
- Responsible for taking photographs as required at ceremonial and other functions throughout the course of official duties.
- Deal with telephone messages and assist with general administration as required to ensure the efficient running of the Civic Office.
- Ensure the Civic Suite and its contents are kept in pristine condition at all times and the bond is properly stocked.
- Liaise effectively with City Council staff and external organisations.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the history of the Guildhall and conduct guided tours of the Guildhall to visiting groups.
- The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Council's overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate HS policy.
