TRUST GRADE IN GASTROENTEROLOGY & GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE (ST3+ EQUIVALENT)
Full Time Fixed Term - 12 months
We are looking for an enthusiastic junior doctor to join our dynamic team as a Trust Grade doctor in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at Newham University Hospital for a fixed period from 5 August 2026 until 3 August 2027. This is an innovative, full-time post designed for doctors who are at ST3+/senior SHO/registrar level as a developmental opportunity prior to taking up a higher specialty physician training post. It is designed for doctors who will have completed internal medicine training (IMT) (or its equivalent).
The post holder would be given the same training and on-call opportunities as the other Specialist Registrars (SpRs) on the North Central and East London (NCEL) gastroenterology rotation program, who are working in this hospital.
The successful applicant will contribute to the acute General Medical service at Newham University Hospital (NUH). This involves full commitment to the general medical on call rota on a 1:8 frequency with prospective cover (ST3+ level). They will participate in the acute management of gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients.
- Clerking patients on the acute medical during the daytime, weekends and at night as part of the on-call team
- Leading or participating in daily ward rounds
- Identify and appropriately manage clinical problems
- Prescribe safely
- Keep an accurate and relevant medical record
- Manage time and clinical priorities effectively
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues
- Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care
- Act in a professional manner at all times
- Manage ethical and legal issues which occur during the management of patients with general medical problems
- Become life-long learners and teachers
- Be part of the cardiac arrest team when on-call
The post holder will participate in one consultant supervised general gastroenterology outpatient clinic per week. There is also a consultant/nurse endoscopist supervised endoscopy list every week that the post holder would be expected to attend (if they wish).
