About the Brachytherapy Service

Based at the internationally renowned St Bartholomew's Hospital in the heart of the City of London, our brachytherapy service delivers gynaecological HDR treatment using Varian Bravos, alongside lower GI treatment using Papillon contact brachytherapy, both integrated onto the Radiotherapy ARIA network.

You’ll work closely with medical, physics, nursing and theatre colleagues in a highly specialised, procedure‑based environment, with genuine scope to shape technique, training and service development as the role grows.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the brachytherapy service, ensuring safe and accurate treatment delivery across gynaecological and lower GI (Papillon) pathways.
  • Lead/support Radiographer‑led vaginal vault insertions, including training and competency assessment of other radiographers.
  • Lead, supervise and mentor radiographers rotating through brachytherapy, and support recruitment, induction and competency assessment.
  • Work closely with Radiotherapy Physics to verify treatment prescriptions and plans, and ensure ongoing treatment accuracy and QA compliance.
  • Deputise for the Brachytherapy Operational Manager, supporting service leadership during periods of absence.
  • Lead service improvement, audit and research activity, and support the adoption of new brachytherapy techniques and technologies.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota and bank holiday working, with flexibility to support the service during scheduled and unscheduled linac downtime.
