We are looking for motivated male and female support workers who are passionate about making a real difference to the lives of young adults with learning disabilities to ensure that they are able to lead fulfilling lives. Whilst previous experience is preferable, it is not essential. We currently have vacancies at our Supported Living houses in close proximity to the river Thames.
We generally assign staff to service users of the same gender as them, but depending on circumstances and suitability, it can be different too. We support young adults who have Learning Disabilities and autism, and who exhibit complex behaviours. Daily tasks will include helping them with activities such as cooking, cleaning, medication taking and social and day activities. This will include taking them out into the community.
We also run services for people with mental ill health and are looking for people with relevant aptitude and experience to support them. Daily duties involved but are not limited to:
- Providing physical, emotional, spiritual and social support to service users
- Working closely with staff and tenants in promoting individual packages of care that reflect the person's chosen lifestyle
- Supporting tenants in leisure, education and employment services inside and outside of the home
- Supporting tenants as much as possible to undertake household chores, including planning and preparing meals
- Assisting tenants in maintaining their personal hygiene where necessary (prompting and supervision rather than hands on)
- Participating in training opportunities to gain a wide understanding of tenants needs and disabilities
- Giving medication as required (training provided)
- Completing written reports and notes
- Supporting tenants accessing benefits e.g. housing benefit, income support, DLA etc
