We are seeking to appoint dynamic and enthusiastic candidates to the role of Specialist School Nurse, located at Cedar House, within our St. Michael's Community Hospital site within the Specialist School Nursing team. The weekly hours for this role will be agreed at interview for the successful candidate.

With the expansion of the Specialist School Nursing Team, there is an opportunity for experienced children’s nurses with an interest in specialist school nursing to join our Babies, Children and Young People Division. The service currently covers the Borough of Enfield and includes 7 Specialist School providers based over multiple sites.

The role is ideal for an experienced children’s nurse, with robust clinical skills who is able to work autonomously and as part of a team. Experience working in acute and community children’s services is desirable.

The successful applicant may not work in Paediatrics upon completing their apprenticeship should no vacancies be present. Currently, there are approximately 1400 children in total ranging from 3 to 19 years old attending the Special Schools. The children have long-term complex medical, neurological illnesses, mental health illnesses and some have learning disabilities.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting Enfield special schools to manage the health needs of children and young people with complex health needs, profound learning disabilities, social and emotional needs. This role involves working in partnership with school staff and multi-agency staff and working across sites. They will cover the duty shifts rota on a weekly basis as part of the team.

The Special School Nursing Team are responsible for the assessment, delivery and co-ordination of nursing care for children with special educational needs who attend the designated special schools. Acting in a leadership role, the post holder will coordinate care between doctors, specialist nurses, allied health professionals, school staff, parents and carers to ensure seamless health care is provided for children and young people.

The post holder will also act as a source of information, support, advice and training for families and school staff. Some home visits and other community visits will be carried out as part of holistic case management.

As with other ICS’s, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level.
