This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Occupational Therapist with experience within mental health services to be part of the growing EL CAMHS HTT developing across East London. The East London CAMHS Home Treatment Team is a team developing across East London that operates Monday-Sunday 09:00-17:00 (Under Review) and aims to provide the following for CYP based in City & Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets:

  • Multi-disciplinary support including assessment, diagnosis and treatment to CYP with serious mental illness where inpatient admission would otherwise be required or as part of supported discharge.
  • Interventions and support provided by EL CAMHS HTT may be for up to 8 weeks and include individual work, family work, psychiatric assessment, occupational therapy, medication management, psycho-education, work on activities of daily living, multi-agency liaison, collaborative care planning, facilitated integration into community resources - as close to home as possible.
  • Empower children and young people to recover from mental health crisis.

The post holder will provide specialist Occupational Therapy expertise to contribute to the high-quality assessment, evidence-based treatment and consultation to client systems including children, young people, their families, carers and professional networks. They will utilise specialist skills to be able to formulate and implement effective care plans of intensive community support for CYP often in distressing circumstances. The post holder will also care coordinate a caseload of young people with highly complex mental health difficulties, working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and young people to formulate, co-produce care plans and complete treatment reviews.

They will work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues to develop specialist training, teaching and consultation in order to enhance the skills available to EL CAMHS HTT clinicians and the wider network as needed. They will support with line management and clinical supervision as required. They will contribute to wide team functions such as being part of service rotas including weekdays/weekend duty and being involved in service development work such as audits, quality improvement, research and service evaluation. The post holder will need to work flexibly across the three boroughs, based on the needs of CYP and their families. Appointments will be conducted according to the needs of these.

Provide specialist Occupational Therapy expertise during assessment of CYP and their families with significant and complex problems in order to formulate and implement plans for the treatment and management of mental health difficulties based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing research-based evidence. To use highly specialist skills to assess how clients’ mental health difficulties impact upon their occupational areas and performance components.

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and wider multi-agency network to ensure the provision of quality, person-centred care. Care coordinate a caseload under the care of EL CAMHS HTT, in accordance with the CPA framework. Provide consultation, advice and guidance to other professionals working with families both within the service and in partner agencies. This will include liaison and working with professional networks involved with complex, emotive and sometimes conflictual issues such as those involving child protection, deliberate self-harm, violence, trauma and suicide risk.

Work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues in inpatient services to ensure safe discharge plans are in place for young people and their families. Assess and monitor clinical risk and mental state on an ongoing basis, collaboratively undertaking risk assessments with other professionals and informing relevant agencies of changes as appropriate. Undertake specialist assessment of daily living skills and social skills to ascertain level of functional ability, risk factors and level of support/accommodation needs in support community care plans.
