Power Resilience is critical to Thames Water's ability to provide safe, reliable services to millions of customers. We are expanding our Power Resilience capability to enhance how power is planned, maintained and improved across our operations. We are looking for talented individuals to join this growing team and help build a coordinated, data‑led approach to managing Power Resilience across Thames Water.
The Senior Resilience Project Engineer will enable the delivery of Power Resilience across Thames Water’s water and wastewater sites by completing resilience assessments, designing proposed solutions and supporting the implementation of priority interventions. You will apply core LV/HV engineering and Power Resilience principles to identify critical vulnerabilities and ensure power systems are safer, more reliable and better able to withstand and recover from power interruptions. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a critical area of UK infrastructure and make a meaningful difference to customer outcomes and environmental protection.
Base location: Location can be flexible for both London or Thames Valley (e.g., Beckton, Hampton, Reading & Swindon)
Working pattern or hours: 36 Hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Key responsibilities:
- Resilience Assessments: You will lead complex HV site and system Power Resilience assessments, producing surveys, updated drawings and data packs that identify vulnerabilities, critical paths and recommendations for improvement.
- Solution Development: You will support the development of HV Power Resilience solutions, contributing to design options, calculations and scopes.
- Resilience Delivery: You will collaborate with internal delivery teams to ensure planned power investments are executed effectively and in line with Power Resilience standards.
- Continuous Improvement: You will apply technical problem‑solving and analytical thinking to drive improvements in resilience, safety and compliance, and support the adoption of best practice across the team.
- Technical Documentation and Records: You will maintain accurate and up‑to‑date technical records, including tests, inspections, drawings and outage/blackstart plans for assigned sites.
What you should bring to the role?
- Held AP/SAP authorisations and HV/LV operational experience.
- Experience delivering, design and estimating HV and LV engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- The ability to work unsupervised and use initiative to deliver specified high-quality outputs.
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role is:
- 11kV switching and operational experience.
- Strong understanding of LV and HV electrical engineering principles.
- Ability to interpret and update technical documentation, single line diagrams and risk assessments.
- Full UK Driving License.
- Proficient in the use of engineering and asset management systems.
- Familiarity with compliance and safety standards. (CDM, SEMD, PR06)
- Data analysis and reporting for technical and compliance purposes.
