An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as the Senior/Principal Pharmacist, Emergency Medicine. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Department Team. The post will suit individuals who would thrive in working autonomously and collaboratively as a strong team player.

As the Senior/Principal Pharmacist for Emergency Medicine, you will provide leadership and clinical expertise, supporting the work of the Emergency Department. You will be a core member of the MDT, ensuring safe and effective medicines management and medicines optimisation. You will oversee the implementation of service improvements, review of medicines expenditure, as well as clinical governance and medicines safety within the Medicine division. You will work directly with patients and carers to understand their needs and support adherence to medication regimens.

You will need good interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to organise and prioritise your work. We will provide appropriate training to aid your personal and professional development.

We have one post available, primarily based at Epsom Hospital:

  • To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Department (ED) in conjunction with other clinical and pharmacy staff as appropriate.
  • To provide day-to-day clinical advice and support to the Emergency Medicine clinical team in the Medicines division promoting evidence-based, cost-effective use of medicines.
  • To promote safe, responsible, cost-effective prescribing and usage of medicines, in line with the formulary, to optimise clinical outcomes and minimise adverse reactions and errors.
  • To lead and manage other pharmacy staff working in the Emergency Medicine team to ensure service delivery to agreed standards in line with business planning requirements.
  • To liaise with appropriate MDT colleagues to ensure the implementation of National/Local guidelines related to medicines use in the emergency medicine setting to optimise patient care and promote best practice.
  • To work with senior pharmacy leadership team to monitor and evaluate medicines expenditure in the Emergency Department, identifying and putting plans in place to address cost pressures and Cost Improvement Plans.

Occasional cross-site work will be required to meet service needs and may include covering for leave and working weekends/bank holidays. You will participate in late duty, Bank Holiday and weekend rotas and be part of a seven-day service.
