We are currently looking for a teaching assistant at our academy based in Wandsworth - supporting students aged 5-19 with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH). The Role

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, resilient, and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with class teachers to support pupils individually and in small groups. You will play a vital part in helping students engage with the curriculum, manage their emotional responses, and build positive social relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.
  • Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.
  • Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent standard).
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
  • Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision environment.
  • Strong communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive approach.
  • High levels of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with challenging or vulnerable pupils.
