We currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our Wastewater network team as a Network Engineer at Beckton.

This role will be field-based, and you will be expected to work and travel within the area.

No experience is required, just willingness to learn. Training will be provided.

As the successful candidate, your role will be supporting our customers and protecting the environment.

You will be overseeing our contractors and ensuring they are working safely and efficiently. Working alongside them to resolve defects on our sewer network.

This role provides an interesting working environment as no one day or one job is the same.

You will liaise with the Environment Agency, councils, and customers.

This role will suit someone self-motivated, has strong interpersonal skills, and enjoys the responsibility of making quick, accurate assessments and decisions whilst on site.

You will form part of an extremely supportive and trusting team.

Base Location: Beckton - IG11 0AD

Working Pattern or hours: 38 hours per week plus inclusion onto a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.

  • What you’ll be doing as The Network Engineer
  • The day-to-day operation of the waste network includes resolution of sewer collapses, blockages, flooding to customers’ homes, and pollution to watercourses.
  • Taking personal ownership of customer issues, i. e. responding to queries, complaints, and resolving issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards during repairs.
  • Acting as local network expert providing information for risk assessments and sharing information regarding network risks and other health and safety issues.
  • Attending meetings with customers, councils, and the Environment Agency to discuss how best our business can support them.
  • Providing critical on-site information to support the wider Operations team.
  • Supervising contractors to ensure that they are working safely and adhering to company policies & procedures.
  • Performing a rolling 6-week shift pattern, with participation in an out-of-hours standby rota once every six weeks.
  • What you should bring to the role
  • Be a self-motivated person who can immerse themselves in the team around them; you need to be very disciplined, have the desire to learn from those around you, and have a can-do attitude.

This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too.

  • We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
  • As you will be spending your time dealing with customers and contractors, you need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Teamwork – We are one team, and our end goals are the same.
  • A strong emphasis on and passion for great customer service.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards.
  • Basic IT skills are preferable.
  • Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential.
