You will be joining a leading financial services organisation, working within a specialist risk technology team supporting a proprietary risk platform. The team is focused on delivering high-quality technology solutions across a regulated financial environment, with development centred around new business requirements and platform evolution.

Your new role

As a Java Developer, you will be working on a proprietary risk platform used within a financial services environment. The role will be approximately 70% hands-on Java development, focused on backend development for the risk platform, and 30% support, including FLR and L3 support responsibilities. You will be responsible for developing new functionality, supporting technical platform improvements and working closely with stakeholders to analyse business requirements and design appropriate solutions. The role will also include participation in a support rota, typically 1 week per month, covering on-call support. This is a purely backend-focused position, with no frontend development. The platform is not currently cloud-based, making this an excellent opportunity for a developer who enjoys working closely with core business-critical systems.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working on risk platforms, pricing, clearing or other complex financial systems
  • Strong experience with relational databases such as Oracle and/or PostgreSQL
  • Good understanding of software engineering best practices within regulated environments
  • Experience using Git, JIRA, Maven, IntelliJ and CI/CD tooling
  • Ability to engage with business and technology stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions
  • Willingness to participate in a support rota and provide L3 production support
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
