About The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Catering Department for an enthusiastic and motivated Hospitality Supervisor to join our in-house Hospitality Team. This is a varied and rewarding hands‑on role where you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision and delivery of a professional hospitality service across multiple Trust sites. You will lead by example, working alongside your team to ensure an exceptional customer experience while maintaining the highest standards of service, presentation, and operational excellence.
Working closely with the Hospitality Team Leader, you will support the management and development of the team and deputise in their absence. You will play a key role in ensuring Hospitality services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with Trust policies, food safety legislation, and Health and safety compliance.
The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of an efficient hospitality service across multiple sites. They will be required to supervise the hospitality team, assistants and kitchen porters. Deputise for the Hospitality Team Leader where required or in their absence.
The post holder will maintain key relationships with all members of the Hospitality and General Catering teams, internal and external clients, internal and local environmental health departments, other GSTT service departments and staff members. Other key partners include Charities and Government Agencies.
The Hospitality department delivers event services across Trust sites and external venues across London, supported by a skilled and dynamic team focused on adapting to future needs and delivering departmental and Trust objectives.
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the Hospitality Supervisor role and its purpose within the service; they are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake additional or alternative administrative duties and responsibilities commensurate with the level of the post, to support the smooth running of the service.
- OPERATIONAL AND STAFF MANAGEMENT
- Supervise the delivery of all hospitality services, including trolley, buffet, breakfast, dinner and beverage services.
- Support high‑profile events such as Ministerial and Royal visits, medical seminars and corporate away days.
- Oversee event delivery across multiple sites, working flexibly in line with service demands.
- Conduct pre‑event briefings to allocate roles and provide clear instructions to staff.
- Maintain a visible front‑of‑house presence to ensure service quality and standards are upheld.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality and performance throughout shifts.
- Ensure all staff comply with uniform, footwear and personal hygiene standards.
- Monitor hospitality rooms to ensure high standards are maintained and escalates issues where necessary.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of menus and changes via the central kitchen and provide accurate dietary information for all events using the Piranha system.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate service level agreements with departments which outsource management of rooms to hospitality.
- Ensure all departmental systems meet statutory requirements through the implementation of policies, audits and controls.
- Cash Bar Service: Manage the set‑up with adequate equipment available. Liaise with the Team Leader regarding the till, credit card machine, alcohol stock and float. Cashing up will be required ensuring everything is securely locked away post event.
- Assist the Team Leader with any required administrative duties. In their absence manage the weekly rota, place orders via Pelican/Oracle and identify any staffing needs where required.
- Maintain a front of house presence throughout the day monitoring staff performances and punctuality on all deliveries and events adhering to SLAs and where needed assisting in CQC and PLACE Audit’s.
- Monitoring all our rooms ensuring that a high standard is met by staff and raise any issues to the Team Leader.
- RISK MANAGEMENT
- Undertakes workplace risk assessments, Health and Safety and food hygiene audits on a periodic basis, maintaining accurate physical and digital records.
- Observes and adheres to all aspects of health and safety/food hygiene legislation; whilst ensuring that team members do likewise.
- Checks and uses materials and equipment correctly, in line with the designated guidelines and reports any signs of defects immediate.
- Attend monthly Health and Safety Champion meetings, representing the department and contributing to discussions and initiatives that promote a safe working environment.
- Safely utilise and operate mechanical and electrical hospitality equipment, as provided by the department for the fulfilment of their duties and report any defects immediately.
- Always wears the approved and correct uniform when on duty and prominently displays their Trust ID and ‘my name is’ badges.
- Completes all mandatory and role specific training courses as required.
- In conjunction with the Trust’s security management and fire safety teams, ensures that procedures are followed for both fire safety and building security.
- COMMUNICATION
- Takes part in weekly and monthly departmentally meetings as required and uses survey monkey where needed.
- Responds to and resolves complaints within scope and escalates to the Hospitality Team Leader where necessary.
- Promptly reports any maintenance faults, damage, theft or health and safety issues in their designated areas of responsibility; to enable these issues to be resolved expediently.
- Reports all accidents and adverse incidents, in accordance with Trust policy Using RADAR.
- Cooperates with colleagues and management to assist in an effective and pro‑active working environment.
- HR
- Assists with the recruitment and selection of new team members.
- Reviews staffing levels and skill mix with service needs.
- Provide leadership and support to team members, promoting a positive and solution‑focused working environment, in line with Trust policies and financial constraints.
- FINANCIAL
- Monitor and authorise all timesheets, ensuring these are delivered weekly in time for payroll.
- Provide internal recharge information and stock take to the Team Leader at the end of every month.
- Order goods as business requires, ensuring best price of achieved and only ordered through authorised suppliers.
- AUTHORITY
- In the absence of the Hospitality Team Leader, the post holder is authorised to take appropriate and reasonable action to maintain agreed service standards within Trust policies and guidelines.
