This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of health and safety across Enfield's Council Housing service at a time of significant regulatory change and investment. Reporting to the Head of M&E and Compliance, you will lead the Council Housing health and safety function, providing operational leadership and assurance across landlord compliance, asset management, repairs, capital works and building safety activities. The role will be central to delivering the Council's commitment to safe, decent and well-maintained homes, supporting the ambitions set out within the Asset Management Strategy and helping ensure compliance with an increasingly demanding regulatory framework including the Building Safety Act and consumer standards. You will influence senior decision-making, drive continuous improvement and help embed a positive safety culture across a large and complex housing service.

Enfield is a large local authority landlord, managing a substantial housing portfolio and delivering an ambitious programme of investment in homes, building safety and compliance. Council Housing Homes is investing millions of pounds through its capital programmes, delivering improvements to homes and estates while strengthening compliance, building safety and resident assurance. We are committed to providing safe, warm and secure homes and putting residents at the heart of everything we do. This is an exciting opportunity to join a service that is investing in its people and creating the capacity needed to meet future challenges and regulatory expectations.

You will be an experienced health and safety professional with the credibility to operate within housing, property, construction, asset management or a similarly regulated environment. You will have a strong track record of leading health and safety services, influencing senior stakeholders and translating complex legislation into practical solutions. We are looking for someone who can develop strategy, challenge poor practice, use performance and assurance information to drive improvement and lead others to deliver excellent outcomes. A recognised Level 6 health and safety qualification together with professional membership of IOSH or an equivalent professional body is essential. Experience of social housing, landlord compliance, construction or property services would be particularly valuable.

In return, we offer the opportunity to lead a high-profile service that makes a real difference to residents' lives. You will work with experienced professionals across asset management, compliance, repairs and building safety and will play a key role in shaping how we manage risk and deliver assurance. Alongside Enfield's excellent employment package, flexible working arrangements and commitment to learning and development, you will have the opportunity to influence strategic decisions, lead service improvement and help deliver safer homes for thousands of residents.

Why it's great to work for Enfield Council:

  • An excellent pension through the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • Up to 32 days annual leave depending on grade and length of service. You will also get eight public holidays per year and an extra day off at Christmas.
  • A blend of remote and office based working for most roles.
  • Interest free season ticket loan repayable over three or ten months.
  • Career development and learning experiences from a range of training courses and learning methods.
  • Employee Assistance Programme to provide advice and counselling services. This is a free and confidential service available to staff and members of their family.
  • Health and leisure discounts and tax-free bikes for work.
  • 1 month's paid sabbatical for registered Social Workers working in Children's Social Care.
