Lewisham College, part of NCG, is seeking an experienced and resilient Behaviour and Support Officer. This is a rewarding role at the heart of our student support provision, working with learners who may be vulnerable, at risk of disengagement, or experiencing challenges that impact their ability to succeed. Reporting to the Safeguarding and Inclusion Manager, you will play a vital role in promoting positive behaviour, supporting learner wellbeing, and helping students overcome barriers to education.

Working collaboratively with curriculum teams, safeguarding colleagues, internal support services and external agencies, you will deliver targeted interventions and behaviour support strategies that enable learners to remain engaged, achieve their goals, and progress successfully. You will also contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive and respectful college environment where all learners can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of behaviour management strategies and interventions that promote learner engagement, retention and achievement.
  • Work directly with learners who are at risk of exclusion, disengagement, poor attendance or behavioural concerns, providing targeted support and guidance.
  • Undertake risk assessments and develop support plans for learners presenting safeguarding, welfare or behavioural risks.
  • Deliver restorative justice and conflict resolution interventions to encourage positive behavioural change and improve relationships.
  • Maintain accurate records, case notes and intervention plans using college systems.
  • Work closely with curriculum staff, safeguarding teams and support services to coordinate interventions and ensure learners receive appropriate support.

  • Has substantial experience supporting young people or adults who may be vulnerable, challenging to engage, or at risk of exclusion.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of behaviour management, safeguarding, inclusion and learner welfare.
  • Has experience of case management, multi‑agency working and achieving positive outcomes for learners.
  • Possesses excellent communication, relationship‑building and problem‑solving skills.
  • Can remain calm, professional and resilient when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Is able to build positive, supportive relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion and improving outcomes for all learners.
