Band 2 Housekeeper | Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

5 South is a maternity ward is an antenatal and postnatal maternity ward located on the 5th floor.

The Ward Housekeeper will work as a team member in the allocated area under the direction/guidance of the Sister/Midwife in charge or his/her nominated deputy.

The focus of the role is to support the nursing team by co-ordinating the provision of meals and help maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients.

  • Individual activity ACTION 1. Welcome patients to the ward in a friendly, professional manner, orientating them and their families.
  • 2. Provide accurate and timely information to patients regarding ward routines i. e.
  • 4. Clean and make empty beds.
  • 5. Answer the telephone.
  • 6. Support ward team by undertaking tasks to enhance patient care i. e. supplies, etc.
  • 7. Recognise when additional support is required such as interpreters and chaplaincy and arranging such in conjunction with midwife in charge.
  • 8. Ensure the bed space is prepared for the arrival of a new admission to the ward i. e. checking the area is clean, rubbish removed etc.
  • 10. Ensure safe working environment by abiding to the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • 11. Liaise with works department regarding requests for works and coordinate such
  • 12. Report any damaged equipment and arrange for required maintenance repairs.
  • 13. Manage a system to ensure reported maintenance work is completed.
  • 14. Check ward fridge temperature and contents daily and document
  • 18. Ensure that the ward weekly "top up" meets the needs of the patients.
  • 19. Bring to the attention of the charge in charge if regular stock items become unavailable.
  • 20. Liaise with Supplies and other departments should deficits in supplies occur and assist in obtaining items required.
