We are a forward-thinking service, with our staff at the centre of achieving the vision for Guy’s and St Thomas’ cancer services: to be a world leader in caring for people with cancer by continuously innovating to improve the lives of our patients.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with a keen interest in supporting people with cancer through rehabilitation and symptom management. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop and advance your skills in cancer assessment, rehabilitation, and symptom management across all stages of the cancer pathway. You will join a supportive service that places a clear emphasis on staff development and professional growth.
We offer a comprehensive in-service training programme, ongoing professional development opportunities, and excellent support from experienced senior colleagues. Supported by the senior occupational therapists in the team, the successful candidate will help oversee the specialist cancer wards at Guy’s Hospital. The role will focus on supporting the early assessment and intervention of patients on acute cancer wards, with the aim of improving the quality of patient care and patient flow. Depending on service needs, the team may also provide support to other wards across the Guy’s Hospital site.
The successful candidate will assess and provide acute rehabilitation for their own varied caseload, while also providing support and leadership to junior members of the team. This post offers an opportunity to develop and utilise specialist clinical skills in the management of people with complex health, acute rehabilitation and social care needs. It also provides an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills, broaden professional experience and contribute to wider local and national priorities in cancer care.
The Occupational Therapy service has a supportive and progressive management structure with departmental objectives founded upon the principles of the clinical governance framework and trust core values. Multi-disciplinary working within the Trust is well established and students are accepted on placement from several training schools. The Trust is committed to continuing the professional development of its workforce. The department has structured in-service training supported by personal and professional development plans and yearly appraisals.
