Assistant Director Portering | Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

This is a role which will be key to the Trust’s role as leader and influencer in South East London and to achieving Essentia’s strategic ambitions.

The role is highly autonomous and ultimately accountable for interpretations of legal and national portering policies and interpreting this into a deliverable strategy and operational practice that ensures GSTT sites are compliant.

The post holder will set the portering strategy, provide expert advice and deliver an operational service.

It does this in partnership with internal stakeholders e. g. clinical groups and delivery groups alongside external stakeholders and other stakeholders relevant to individual sites and all GSTT locations.

The successful candidate will possess a high level of financial acumen, leadership expertise, alongside the ability to lead portering functions to deliver operational excellence.

As one of the Essentia Leadership Team you will be required to work one weekend every 3 months and be part of the Directorates on-call rota.

  • Develops the portering standards and operating procedures for operational portering provision across the GSTT estate.
  • Identify new opportunities for the development of the services arising from changes in the external environment or internal innovation and ways to respond to them.
  • Lead a management team who oversee nearly 180 staff in the provision of portering specialists
  • Drive a safety culture with the team and with all suppliers to ensure the delivery of a safe, healthy and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Establish, develop and regularly review strategy, policy, business plans and forecasts relating to all aspects of the role.
  • Establish and deliver operational performance (financial and non-financial) targets against agreed service standards, including compliance with Financial & Procurement Regulations.
  • The post holder will foster psychological safety and a just culture, ensuring concerns are heard, discrimination is challenged, and learning is used to improve safety, quality and experience.
  • The post holder will lead through clear objectives, coaching, feedback and development of others, supporting.
