The Department of Dental Medicine is delighted to invite applications for Locum Consultant in Special Care Dentistry at University College London Hospital. The post is for maternity leave cover for a period of 12 months. Successful applicants will join an established team providing a wide range of specialist care and postgraduate training. Applicants will be expected to have excellent communication skills, be able to build effective working relationships at all levels, and also have experience in postgraduate teaching and training. The post-holder will be accountable to the Divisional Clinical Director and report to the Clinical Lead.

Direct Clinical Care Activities

  • Provide a courteous and efficient special care service to all users.
  • Provide high quality dentistry for special care dentistry patients.
  • Provide high quality dentistry under sedation including inhalation and intravenous sedation.
  • Deliver the general outpatient Special Care Dental Service alongside other consultants.
  • Support the specialised pathways within the service including the Haematology Dental Service, head and neck cancer dental pathway and general anaesthetic pathway.
  • Deliver the clinical protocols for all patients undergoing special care dentistry to ensure that processes and procedures in place conform to local and national standards.
  • Undertake continued professional development and be aware of any new clinical developments in dentistry, and to regularly update his/her skills and clinical practice.
  • Undertake teaching and training in special care dentistry for all levels of staff which will include clinicians, trainees as well as support staff.
  • Be a member of the Department of Dental Medicine and work in an integrated way with other members of the department.
  • Share, with other consultants, clinical and administrative work, and the management and supervision of junior staff.
