Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is appointing a Locum Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine on 12 months contract.

This is a replacement post to fill an existing vacancy in order to meet the demand of increasing inpatient and outpatient referrals, the growing demand for two-week wait services, and inpatient care, including the provision of a Respiratory Support Unit and CPAP.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with or without General Internal Medicine accreditation.

However, applicants who hold GIM accreditation will be expected to participate in the GIM on-call rota as part of the post.

The successful candidate will join a rapidly expanding Respiratory Department.

We are seeking an outstanding clinician to complement the current respiratory service, particularly someone with a sub‑specialty interest in airways disease.

They will also support inpatient respiratory care on Lamb ward and other wards, including the provision of NIV, and inpatient respiratory consultations.

  • Lead and develop a comprehensive Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) service, including dedicated outpatient clinics and specialist patient management.
  • Chair and coordinate the ILD multidisciplinary team (MDT), bringing together respiratory physicians, radiologists, pathologists, rheumatologists, pharmacists and specialist nurses.
  • Provide expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with ILD, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, connective tissue disease-associated ILD and other fibrotic lung diseases.
  • Take clinical responsibility for prescribing and monitoring immunosuppressive and antifibrotic therapies, ensuring safe and effective medicines governance.
  • Design and implement standardised clinical pathways for referral, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and long-term follow-up of ILD patients.
  • Lead service improvement, education, research, audit and regional collaboration to enhance quality of care and ensure compliance with national ILD standards and guidelines.

The post is focused on the delivery of high-quality patient care in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine.

In addition, the post involves inpatient respiratory care, including non-invasive ventilation, delivered as part of a team with three other respiratory physicians.

The post is offered on a full-time basis of 10 programmed activities .

There will be 8.0 PAs of direct clinical care and 2.0 PAs allocated for supporting professional activities (SPAs).

For consultants with GIM accreditation, the post includes participation in the GIM on-call rota.
