Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to invite applications for a 6.5 PA Consultant Dermatologist to provide maternity cover within our friendly, dynamic and expanding Dermatology Department. This fixed-term post is available for 9 months, with the possibility of extension to 12 months, commencing ideally in September or October 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant seeking to gain experience within a highly supportive London teaching hospital and to become part of an ambitious, forward-looking department.

The successful applicant will therefore have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working within the department before deciding whether to apply for a substantive consultant position. Should the successful applicant subsequently be appointed to one of the substantive posts, the remainder of the maternity leave would simply be covered by another locum consultant.

We actively encourage consultants to develop their own subspecialty interests and, wherever possible, these can be incorporated into the agreed job plan and supported within the department. The postholder will provide a comprehensive Dermatology service, working collaboratively with consultant colleagues to deliver high-quality care across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role includes:

  • The assessment and management of adult dermatology patients.
  • Timely review of inpatient referrals.
  • Participation in skin cancer services including 2WW clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provision of telephone and electronic Advice and Guidance to local GPs.

We have recently relocated into a purpose-built, air-conditioned Dermatology Department with modern clinical facilities, including dedicated treatment rooms, dermatological surgery suites and a phototherapy unit. The department has a thriving NIHR research portfolio, with opportunities to participate in clinical research, collaborate with The Royal London Hospital, our tertiary dermatology centre, and contribute to service development, innovation and quality improvement.

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and is committed to equality, inclusion and the ongoing development of its staff. The successful applicant will join a friendly, supportive and forward-looking Dermatology Department, working alongside consultant colleagues to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across a comprehensive range of dermatology services.

The key responsibilities of the post include:

  • Providing a comprehensive Dermatology service, including inpatient referrals, outpatient assessment and treatment, and telephone and electronic Advice and Guidance to local GPs.
  • Undertaking consultant-led adult dermatology outpatient clinics.
  • Participating in skin cancer services, including 2WW clinics and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings where required.
  • Providing timely assessment and management of inpatient dermatology referrals.
  • Sharing responsibility for delivering evidence-based, high-quality care for inpatients and outpatients, including all associated clinical administration.
  • Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff.
  • Working collaboratively with General Practitioners, multidisciplinary colleagues and partner organisations to support integrated patient care.
  • Contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, research and the ongoing development of the Dermatology Department.
  • Working in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards and the requirements of the Consultant Contract, while liaising closely with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager and Divisional Operations Manager.
