We are looking for an FY3 level doctor to join the Medicine team at Furness General Hospital. The role also involves participation in training and educational activities, continuing medical education and audit activities.
You will be granted access to HORUS e-portfolio, a named Clinical Supervisor, have a study leave budget and study leave time, and access to quality improvement and research projects. During your post we expect you to obtain a portfolio of knowledge and skills in order to progress your career and increase your competitiveness at national selection.
Day to day care of patients on the Gastro ward. Member of the cardiac arrest team. Participate in 1:9 on call rota, including days, nights and weekends.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
The post is full time and fixed term for 6 months and involves working at FY3 level. This post is not recognised for post graduate training. You will be given access to e-portfolio. During this post we expect you to obtain a portfolio of knowledge and skills to progress your career and increase your competitiveness at national selection. You will be given a named supervisor. You will have a study leave budget and study leave allowance.
General
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in various specialties with responsibility for in-patients.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department.
- To provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
- To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
- The post holder will be a member of the Cardiac Arrest Team and will receive continuing training in this field during their time in post. The post holder will be on a rota including days, nights and weekends.
Resident Medical Staff
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the professional supervision and management of foundation year 1 and 2 trainees and students.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for resident medical staff.
Management & Service Development
- In conjunction with the Care Group Senior Team, to take an active role in the management of the Care Group.
- In conjunction with the Care Group Director, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles that are fit for the future.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.
- To observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust's Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters.
Clinical Governance
- In conjunction with consultant colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
