About the role:

As a Principal Social Worker in the Through Care (0-14) team, you will manage complex cases to secure positive outcomes for our looked after children. Grounded in the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and the Signs of Safety framework, you will champion strengths-based practice that keeps the child’s voice central. You will mentor colleagues, support placement stability and collaborate with multi-agency partners to deliver outstanding care.

About you:

  • You will have a social work qualification and be an experienced practitioner with a proven track record in statutory services, with experience in court work and care planning.
  • Passionate about ensuring the voice of the child drives every decision, using clear, transparent, and age-appropriate communication.
  • Able to mentor colleagues including NQSWs, modelling best practice and contributing to our reflective and supportive team environment.

What you will do:

  • Hold a caseload of Looked After Children applying Signs of Safety principles to secure timely permanency and placement stability.
  • Prepare high-quality statements, care plans and assessments to effectively represent the Local Authority and to progress care plans for children.
  • Use direct work tools to involve children, families and carers in planning.
  • Work collaboratively with health, education, CAMHS, police, advocates and other agencies to create robust safety networks around children in care.
  • Assist the Team Manager with day-to-day operational tasks, including quality assurance and auditing of reports, assessments and care plans.

This position has a requirement for an Enhanced DBS Check.
