An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic Critical Care team at Aintree Hospital as a Band 7 clinical coordinator. We are a 26 bedded critical care unit within a major trauma centre with a high volume of acute admissions from around the region. This is a rare chance for an ambitious, motivated and experienced critical care nurse to step into a senior leadership role within a fast-paced, high-performing environment where clinical excellence and patient outcomes are at the heart of everything we do.

We are seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Senior Sister/Charge Nurse who thrives under pressure, demonstrates strong clinical leadership, and is driven to make a meaningful difference to both patient care and team development. You will bring extensive, up-to-date experience within a Level 2/3 Critical Care environment and be able to demonstrate a consistently high standard of clinical practice at a minimum of Band 6 level. You will be an excellent communicator with strong leadership capability, able to coordinate complex clinical activity and support a large multidisciplinary team.

Whilst a degree qualification is desirable, we will welcome applications from individuals who can evidence significant critical care experience and readiness for a leadership role. Ideally, applicants will hold (or be working towards) Step 4 competencies. You will be recognised for your proactive, collaborative and innovative approach, with a clear commitment to patient-centred care, service improvement and maintaining high clinical standards within a fast-moving environment.

In this role, you will lead and coordinate the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care across the unit, while managing operational pressures within a busy critical care setting. You will take accountability for staffing, patient flow and risk management, ensuring safe and timely progression of patients from admission through to discharge. You will work closely with the Ward Manager, Matron, Consultants and wider multidisciplinary team, supporting service delivery and deputising for senior leaders as required. A key part of the role will include identifying risks, implementing timely actions, and contributing to ongoing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Our department provides care for 26 adult critical care beds (Level 2 and Level 3 capacity) and is recognised for its strong team culture, clinical expertise and high standards of care. We are proud of our outcomes, consistently performing strongly across ICNARC benchmarking, regulatory assessments and patient experience feedback. As part of Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we operate across multiple sites and serve a diverse population across Merseyside. We are also a Regional Major Trauma Centre, delivering specialist and tertiary services including vascular and complex surgical care. Our department has an established research profile and plays an active role in national studies, contributing to advancements in critical care practice.
