A unique opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join the MDT at PAWC.

The role will be based in the Prosthetic and Wheelchair centre which is one of the disablement service centres nationally commissioned by NHS England and provides prosthetic limb services on a regional level to people in Liverpool and surrounding areas.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing expert assessment and intervention in amputee rehabilitation, providing prosthetic limbs and enabling patients to walk and regain function.

Please note that this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship due to the contracted working hours

  • To provide the specialist assessment and treatment of patients with amputation in prosthetic rehabilitation setting.
  • To work collaboratively within the MDT to provide a quality service that meets the needs of patients and their families.
  • Provide education and support for junior staff and student
  • To deputise for the Advanced Practitioner during periods of absence

  • To undertake the assessment of primary patients with amputation including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies.

To assess patients on their ability to use early walking aids and using advanced clinical reasoning skills be able to advise the MDT on the patient’s level of ability in using a prosthetic limb.

  • To implement treatment plans to achieve the best functional outcome for the amputee on prosthetic limbs and optimize gait.
  • To implement evidence based BACPAR (NICE) guidelines.
  • Deliver and evaluate treatment programmes according to health care needs using a comprehensive range of treatment options.
  • To manage waiting lists and prioritise referrals as appropriate.
  • To advise, assist and educate Band 6, 5 and Band 3 therapists together with student Physiotherapists on the management of clinically complex patients.
  • To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided, implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken.
  • To work closely with other members of the Clinical Team to develop a co-ordinated Multidisciplinary Service and actively participate in the scheduled Team Meetings as required.
  • To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.

This will include patients who will have difficulties in understanding and communication.

  • To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.
  • To keep up to date with advances in prosthetic limbs including microprocessor knees.
  • To manage the regional service for the delivery of limbs and liaise with local physiotherapy services for any ongoing physiotherapy needs for the patient.
