An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join our Stroke team at Aintree University Hospital, specifically in the Ward 33 Acute Stroke Unit. You must be highly motivated, innovative and have a passion for delivering outstanding care to our patients and our community. Transforming stroke care is a priority within the NHS Long Term Plan.

The Acute Stroke Unit is a 29 bedded Acute Stroke Ward, providing a wide range of services including acute stroke support, assessment, rehabilitation, and all aspects of inpatient care to patients. There will be an opportunity to rotate and work across the Stroke Assessment Centre, HASU, and Stroke Unit at Aintree.

The successful candidate will join a supportive and enthusiastic team committed to providing high standards of patient care. A full 2-week ward preceptorship will be available, along with support for future development.

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will assist the Ward/Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carers. The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties as delegated by the registered nurse.

  • Participate in all aspects of patient care with particular attention to personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Provide for patients' toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
  • Support patients in managing incontinence and promote continence.
  • Record a patient's fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts.
  • Prepare and serve patients' meals, drinks, and snacks, assisting/feeding patients as necessary.
  • Record a patient's dietary intake when indicated in the patient's plan of care.
  • Enable patients to maintain/improve their mobility by use of exercise and mobility appliances.
  • Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the registered nurse in conjunction with the patient's plan of care.
  • Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from your mandatory training and in relation to the patient's manual handling plan.
