We are looking for a Skilled Greenspace Operative to join our Environmental Services team on a permanent basis. This is a hands‑on, supervisory role responsible for maintaining and enhancing the appearance and usability of communal and public spaces across housing and non‑housing estates. You will also support and mentor a small team of Horticultural Operatives, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while following all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Working Hours

  • 22/02/2026 – 01/11/2026: 41 hours per week (36 weeks)
  • 02/11/2026 – 28/12/2026: 34.5 hours per week (8 weeks)
  • 29/12/2026 – 23/02/2027: 34.5 hours per week (8 weeks)

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out routine and seasonal horticultural tasks including grass cutting, hedge trimming, pruning, weeding, planting, mulching, and leaf clearance
  • Undertaking soft landscaping projects, such as turfing, seeding, shrub and flower planting, soil preparation, and minor landscaping
  • Operating and maintaining ride‑on mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, spraying equipment, and hand tools safely and efficiently
  • Supporting winter maintenance operations, including gritting, snow clearance, leaf clearance, and pathway upkeep
  • Undertaking litter picking, bin emptying, and environmental cleaning to ensure communal areas are safe and tidy
  • Supervising and mentoring a small team of Horticultural Operatives
  • Completing daily vehicle and equipment checks and reporting any issues
  • Recording completed work accurately using mobile devices or job sheets
  • Liaising courteously with residents, clients, and colleagues
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, PPE, PUWER, and environmental procedures
  • Suggesting practical improvements or efficiencies to enhance service delivery

What We’re Looking For

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture, preferably on housing estates, parks, or local authority contracts
  • Supervisory experience or ability to coordinate a small team of operatives
  • Knowledge of plant species, turf management, and weed control
  • Familiarity with digital work management or scheduling systems
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong customer‑focused approach with excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility and reliability to adapt to seasonal work patterns and outdoor environments
  • Desirable qualifications / skills: PA1/PA6 spraying, LANTRA/NPTC machinery certifications, First Aid, Health & Safety awareness, and environmental/waste handling knowledge
