A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced dietitian to join the North Mersey Stroke service. We invite applications from band 5 or 6 dietitians with experience of working in an acute inpatient setting and an interest in stroke.

The North Mersey stroke service consists of centralised acute services on the Aintree site including Stroke Emergency Assessment Centre (SEAC), Hyperacute (HASU) and inpatient rehab based on the Aintree site where this post will be based. There is also an inpatient rehab unit and the stroke early supported discharge teams based at Broadgreen hospital with whom you will develop stroke working relationships.

You will be supervised by a band 7 dietitian and will maintain stroke professional links with the Aintree dietetic team for peer support and in-service training. Working in the stroke service, you will be part of a well-established and supportive MDT consisting of medics, nursing staff and other AHP colleagues.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an interest in stroke care, excellent communication skills, a practical and forward-thinking approach to service development and evaluation, and the ability to work as part of a large team. This post requires active participation in innovation and service improvement initiatives and audit. You will be supported with your personal development goals through annual appraisal and will have regular supervision.

You will also be involved with the supervision of dietetic students and graduate dietitians as part of your role, so strong leadership and communication skills are essential. You will work with the wider team to review performance against national standards and identify areas for improvement, contribute to local team meetings including safety and governance, and contribute to training and education programs.

Below are some examples of responsibilities of this post:

  • To contribute to the delivery of the dietetic service
  • To assess and treat a defined caseload of patients and maintain accurate records
  • To work collaboratively and co-operatively with other clinicians to meet the care needs of a defined inpatient caseload
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures local to your clinical area
  • Participate in data collection, service improvement and audit
  • Participate in the supervision and support of junior staff and students
