We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Lead Pharmacy Technician with a strong procurement background to join our Pharmacy Procurement team. You will lead the safe, effective and efficient delivery of pharmacy procurement, including managing medicine shortages, overseeing purchasing, and ensuring robust invoicing processes. Working closely with Procurement, Stores and Distribution leads, you will support continuity of patient care and deliver cost-effective outcomes. You will also line manage the purchasing and invoicing team, supporting development and maintaining a high-performing service.

Key duties include:

  • Producing monthly reports
  • Maintaining accurate procurement data
  • Monitoring contract compliance
  • Managing off-contract spend and claims
  • Supporting the Cost Improvement Programme (CIP) by identifying risks and implementing savings
  • Ensuring stock accuracy
  • Managing supply disruptions
  • Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, finance teams and regional networks

Candidates must have proven medicines procurement experience, strong organisational and analytical skills, and experience leading teams. A proactive, solution-focused approach is essential. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Organising and line managing the Pharmacy Purchasing and Invoicing teams across all LUHFT sites
  • Monitoring and managing Commercial Medicines Unit pharmacy contracts
  • Co-operating with all pharmacy staff in providing and developing an efficient and comprehensive pharmaceutical service for patients
  • Working in collaboration with the Pharmacy Stores Managers
  • Ensuring all Standard Operating Procedures for the Purchasing and Invoicing of goods are up to date
  • Monitoring sickness absence and completing documentation as required
  • Managing the daily workload of the department
  • Attending relevant Pharmacy staff meetings
  • Carrying out annual appraisals for all purchasing and invoicing staff
  • Responding to queries from all staff regarding stock supply and providing specialist technical advice
  • Leading and organising the purchasing and invoicing staff in maintaining contract details
  • Ensuring mandatory checks of Unlicensed medicines are carried out
  • Monitoring off contract spend and supporting the purchasing and invoicing team
  • Utilising reporting within Exend and completing appropriate mapping
  • Communicating with a wide range of healthcare professionals and suppliers
  • Participating in external audits on the service
  • Providing a service outside normal working hours for emergencies
  • Supporting equality and promoting diversity
