A vacancy at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a Consultant Geriatrician with a specialist interest in Community Geriatrics and Frailty. The Department of Medicine for Older People wishes to appoint a Consultant Geriatrician to work alongside other geriatricians to develop innovative 7-day services for older people, both within the hospitals and community.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Support acute frailty services and general geriatric ward cover at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen sites.
- Work alongside other geriatric team members to continue to develop and provide an innovative acute frailty service.
- Provide comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Lead MDT based CGA care on the general geriatric wards and re-ablement wards.
The in-patient wards comprise 14-28 beds with an average of 2-4 new admissions each day. The post will be supported by trainees, junior doctors, and Advanced Nurse Practitioners at the Broadgreen and Royal Liverpool sites. There will also be STR support on a sessional basis.
The out-patient work will be supported in our MDT geriatric outpatient department with support from nurses and therapy staff. There are ambitions to develop rapid access frailty services as an alternative to admission.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, and Royal Liverpool University Hospital. We are part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, formed on 1 Nov 2024 from the coming together of LUHFT and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust.

- Tuesday: Ward MDT and Ward round Geriatric Ward 9am-1pm, Core SPA 1pm-5pm
- Thursday: Age Well Clinic and MDT reviews 9am-1pm, Ward MDT and Ward round Geriatric Ward 1pm-5pm
- Friday: Age Well Clinic and MDT reviews 9am-1pm, Core SPA 1pm-5pm
