I am looking for a compassionate, reliable, and enthusiastic Carer/Personal Assistant to support my happy 21-year-old son whilst also providing a helping hand to me, his mum. He is a friendly young man who enjoys spending time with people, particularly once he has built a rapport and feels comfortable with them. He loves sharing his interests, including using his tablet, playing games, and reading books together. When he is feeling well and supported, his personality truly shines, and he enjoys engaging with those around him.
The role involves providing practical support, with a particular focus on assisting with personal care. You will help support his daily routine, wellbeing, and participation in enjoyable activities. I am looking for someone who has initiative and can confidently support day-to-day activities to make time enjoyable, engaging, and fun while being mindful not to overstimulate or trigger anxiety. We have a lovely dog so you would need to be happy to also engage with him. You will also need experience with epilepsy and either have training or be willing to be trained in this area.
Duties include:
- Personal grooming
- Eating and drinking assistance
- Moving and handling
- Dressing / undressing
- Bathroom assistance
- Support to go out to park to use adapted equipment, go on walks using wheelchair
- A wheelchair adapted car would be beneficial to attend other activities but not necessary
Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
- Must be comfortable with pets
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
Additional requirements:
- Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
