The Liaison Psychiatry service based at Kings Mill hospital is offering a substantive Band 6 Liaison Nurse post for an organised, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who has excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work and is committed to working with patients aged 18 and over. This role will involve working in the older age adult team (aged 65 and over).
This post is open to both experienced Nurses who are already operating at a band 6 level or above and experienced band 5 Nurses who will be supported into a band 6 position during the induction process. The Liaison Psychiatry service seeks to deliver a comprehensive, integrated liaison psychiatry service for people over the age of 18 in all departments of Kings Mill Hospital. The older age service covers Newark General and Mansfield and Ashfield Community Hospitals. It provides a year-round proactive supportive service to our acute colleagues to facilitate the best possible care to those presenting with mental health conditions such as dementia, acute confusion and delirium.
The focus of our work includes urgent assessments in respect of self-harm and mental health emergencies, advice and support to wards in respect of patients experiencing mental health problems. A core requirement of our service is to provide training and education to our acute hospital colleagues, and it is expected that the successful applicant will take an active role in this.
We have a strong focus on working together as a team and on patient and carer satisfaction. We proudly offer a thorough and robust induction package to this role and ensure that all new starters are given enough training and time spent as a supernumerary staff member to ensure that they are comfortable in the role before they are expected to work autonomously. We provide an excellent system of supervision to ensure that practitioners are always supported in their decision making. As such, you do not need to have previous experience in liaison psychiatry to be able to apply for this job.
When fully established in this role, key areas of performance will include effective team working skills, effective written and spoken communication, being able to work under pressure to deliver compassionate and person-centred care and being able to carry out sound risk and mental health assessments. Essential criteria include a professional qualification and registration (Mental Health Nurse), appropriate mental health experience and a commitment to reflective practice and learning and development.

The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
