Candidates are required to hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Histopathology; a successful candidate without this portfolio would be required to study for and attain this qualification.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in all areas of the laboratory including the primary diagnostic section comprising specimen reception, dissection and section production (embedding, microtomy & quality control) as well as our specialist section which includes immunohistochemistry (automated), electron microscopy and enzyme histochemistry.
You will be a well motivated, proactive team member who is able to prioritise and work on your own initiative with minimal supervision. You must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, a flexible approach to work in line with the Trust's agenda for service reconfiguration and improved patient care and be capable of working accurately and efficiently under pressure.
The department operates a voluntary out of hours technical on-call service. Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030). We have four primary goals: high-quality care for all, being a great place to work, partnerships for impact, research and education excellence. We will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all: we are compassionate, we are proud, we are inclusive, and we are one team. This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
