We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Band 6 Specialist Nurse to join our growing Children’s Immunology Team.

Supporting 140 children and young people with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, you will play a key role in delivering specialist care, education and support to patients and families across Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and surrounding areas.

This rewarding role includes supporting immunology clinics, treatment monitoring, home immunoglobulin therapy programmes, multidisciplinary working, and contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Registered Children's Nurse (RSCN/RN Child) with a minimum of 12 months’ experience and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

Able to work flexibly, use initiative, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

The role involves supporting children and young people with immune deficiencies through clinic attendance, treatment monitoring, blood testing, and home therapy programmes.

Responsibilities include training families in home treatment administration, maintaining accurate records, arranging investigations, preparing patient correspondence, and supporting transition to adult services.

The post holder will work closely with immunology teams, participate in MDT meetings, attend specialist clinics and educational events, and contribute to service development, including updating clinical guidelines.

A willingness to learn, undertake mandatory training, and engage in professional development is essential to support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred immunology care.

The post holder will act as a specialist nurse within the Children's Immunology Service, providing expert clinical care, advice and support to children, young people and families with immunological conditions.

The role combines direct patient care, service development, education, leadership and quality improvement, with a minimum of 80% of time spent in clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Care and Case Management
• Manage a delegated caseload, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and specialist interventions.
• Provide expert clinical advice and support to patients, families and healthcare professionals.
• Undertake specialist clinical procedures and assessments, including venepuncture, cannulation and immunology-specific investigations.
• Support nurse-led services, home therapy programmes and immunology clinics.
• Advocate for patients and coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams.
• Patient and Family Support
• Build and maintain effective relationships with children, young people and families.
• Promote patient-centred care and involve families in decision-making.
• Provide education, counselling and support to help families manage complex long-term health conditions.

• Deliver specialist education and training to patients, families and healthcare professionals.

• Service-Specific Duties
• Undertake telephone consultations and provide specialist advice.
• Support immunology outpatient clinics and nurse-led services.
• Deliver patient education and training on immunoglobulin therapies and self-management.
• Support day-case and homecare immunology services, including high-cost therapies.
• Participate in home visits and follow-up support for patients receiving home therapy.
• Working Relationships

The post holder will work closely with specialist nurses, consultants, Heads of Nursing, matrons, ward teams, allied health professionals, service managers, quality and safety teams, university partners and regional immunology networks to ensure delivery of a high-quality specialist service.
