HOURS: 15 hours per week (5 days/Week)

RATE OF PAY: £12 p/h

LOCATION: My own home (Moortown, LS17)

PURPOSE OF JOB

54-yo independent family man, living with my family (my wife and my two children), due to my condition (MS), I am unable to maintain my household, but would love to do so with the help of someone. I require a personal assistant who can provide the assistance I require under my direction. My personal assistant must be reliable, honest, trustworthy and punctual (essential). S/He must also be able to work flexible hours, mostly on mornings. S/He must have a good sense of humour. The person I will employ must understand the need for confidentiality in all areas of work including total respect for privacy (my own and my family’s).

Main Duties

  • I require some help with dressing on a daily basis when necessary.
  • I require some help to walk the dog on a daily basis when necessary.
  • I may require some help with hand, legs, and foot care, with personal care (such as beard and hair trimming).
  • I may require assistance to transfer to my wheelchair when necessary.
  • I may require help to enable me to do normal domestic tasks at home such as making the bed, food preparation, putting clothes away, tidying up, laundry, ironing, washing the dishes, hoovering, cleaning the house, gardening, DIY, decorating and painting, etc.
  • I do need help with certain elements of everyday life.
  • And any other request that I may reasonably make.

Person Specification

  • The applicant must pass the DBS (exCRB) checks.
  • The applicant should reside within 30 minutes of my home.
  • Experience and qualifications desirable (but not mandatory).
  • The applicant should like children and be able to assist me to take care of them if needed (I have two children of 14 and 12 yo).
  • The applicant should be comfortable with dogs.
  • Ideally the applicant will have a good sense of humour and enjoy doing the above activities with me as this will make it easier for me to ask for assistance.

Supervision:

My personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to me in all aspects of their work. S/he must always ask what I require and not make assumptions about any aspect of the assistance I need or how it should be carried out. S/he should not carry out tasks unless we have first discussed it.

Confidentiality:

You will be expected to always keep total confidentiality. You must have compassion for this person and treat her with respect and in return you will be treated with respect.

Holiday Entitlement:

You will be entitled to 5.6 weeks paid holiday each year pro rata. You will be asked to give at least a two weeks’ notice for any holiday required so that alternative arrangements can be made.
