Personal Assistant (PA) required LS14

Reporting to: Pauline Burrill (Mother)

Location: Whinmoor Leeds 14

Job purpose: To provide home care and support and to take out and about into the community when appropriate.

About the employer: I am a 32 year old young lady who has a cheeky and outgoing personality but can be quite shy with strangers. I enjoy outdoor outings in the car. When at home I like colour activity games and enjoy watching colours, songs and outdoor places to go on YouTube. I am a young lady first with Downs Syndrome. I do have complex mental health and care needs which are supported through continuing health care. I use a wheelchair outdoors only due to my physical health. I can walk a very short distance outdoors but can become very breathless if walking too far. I do get tired very easily, more in the afternoon due to my physical health. I can become focused on my own thoughts and if anxious or upset about something can use inappropriate language, but these are usually short outbursts at the time.

Social duties, for example, support to:

  • Provide support in the home environment.
  • Take out and about in the community, i.e. park, shops, when appropriate.

Main duties:

  • Provide support in the home environment.

Personal Care:

  • Assist with cleaning after toileting.

Domestic duties:

  • Assist with any drinks or healthy snacks when needed.

Type of person required for the role:

  • A reliable, punctual, non-judgemental person with an ability to build good relationships based on trust and respect.
  • Easy going with an outgoing sense of humour would be useful to enable a more successful and happy relationship.
  • A mature lady with life experience would be more appropriate for this role.

Specific requirements:

  • Knowledge or some knowledge of Downs Syndrome/learning disabilities would be useful.

Other:

  • Due to the nature of this role involving some self care, female applicants only.
  • If available to cover shifts due to illness.

What you can expect to receive:

  • Work shadowing a present employee can be provided to enable you to become acquainted with my needs.
  • Work place pension.

Hours of work:

  • Friday and Tuesday mornings. 5 hours each day. Start time can be agreed on interview.

Rate of pay:

  • Day rate is £14.16 per hour.

Skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Essential: driving licence, car and appropriate insurance, good command knowledge of English Language essential for communication needs, mature and outgoing attitude, ability to support people with behavioural difficulties.
