I am a man, 66 years old, recovering from a serious illness, seeking a personal assistant. I am in fragile health, easily fatigued and breathless which means I am not in a position to look after myself. My walking ability is limited so I use an electric wheelchair.
The role involves:
- Making sure I am safe and supervised
- Keeping my daily schedule, i.e. meals need to be on time
- Taking me out at certain times (before I get tired)
- Providing general housekeeping (cooking lunch, preparing afternoon snack and evening meal, cleaning, hoovering, dusting, changing my bed, laundry)
- Making phone calls on my behalf
- Answering emails
- Assisting me with planning and decision making
- Food shopping independently or occasionally with me
- Picking up my medication from local pharmacy
- Laundrette drop-offs and pick-ups
- Accompanying me to hospital appointments
- Accompanying me on my daily local 'fresh air' outings
- Going out for a coffee or a meal
- If I am well enough, taking me out on a short trip in your car
- Accompanying me to church
- Helping me with any other daily chores and responsibilities that may arise
I can manage short outings for up to max 1-2 hours including travel time. Applicants should be prepared to provide personal care if required, but this is not anticipated to be part of the routine work. My wheelchair weighs 10kg so physical ability to lift it in and out of a car boot is essential.
There is scope for more days and more hours once a good working relationship is established. Ideally, my PA would also be available to stay overnight as a live-in carer to provide respite for occasional days, or up to a week, for my partner (who is my main carer).
I am immunocompromised so I need someone with excellent hygiene standards for food preparation, hand hygiene and general cleanliness of the flat.
My interests include classical, pop and folk music, film, cooking (which I can't do at the moment), outdoors, and reading. I am looking for a friendly, responsible and reliable person who can fully understand my situation and health limits/risks, who can be professional and thorough in their work, knows how to manage their schedule efficiently - juggle all duties on the day while making sure all my needs are met efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meal Preparation
- Domestic Care
- Social + Leisure activities
- Support to remain independent
Training:
- Essential PA Guide
- Food Hygiene
- Hand hygiene
